Shelly sat quietly engrossed into her physics notes at the
library. There were other references books spread over her table. She was too
busy in decoding the meaning from the text that she didn’t take notice of someone
pulling a chair across her. She was
reading the same text for half an hour when the stranger sweared, “ Damn this
problem!” When everyone hushed him, he
realised that he was too loud.
For the first time, Shelly raised her eyes to have clear
look at the guy who had disturbed her precious concentration. It was Jon. “Jeez!
Don’t let the spell come true!”, she wondered. She was about to leave when he
said , “ I am sorry. I…” He was lost in
words. “ Never mind! I have to go.”, she said, leaving him confused. “ Wait!!
Wait!”, he called as he followed her.
“ You can have a cup of coffee with me if you have some time.”,
he said. She stopped suddenly and turned. She walked towards him and snatched
his book. She scribbled something on it and left after handing the book. He opened
the book to see what she had written. It was the solution to the problem. “ Oh!
Beauty with brain!”, he thought.
She was neither very pretty nor ugly. She was an average
girl. She dressed mostly in Gothic. She wasn’t Jon’s type. Still Jon had lost
his heart to this mysterious girl. She had taken control of most of his
imagination. The events replayed in his mind every time he was idle. His
conversation with his friends would start with the mysterious girl and end with
the topic on her. His friends were getting bored of it.
He searched for her everywhere but it was hard. She wasn’t normal
kind of girl. She would come early to school and leave by afternoon when he
would be practicing basket ball. She was not like the other girls who would
strive to be visible to him. She was shady, trying to hide from him. He
wondered why.
He should have asked her name instead he had asked her for a
coffee. How lame could he be? But she
had left before he could ask her anything. It wasn’t his mistake.
Lizzie watched him staring at Shelly with everlasting desire
to talk. At last the spell was working. Jon was becoming spellbound in love.
This is what she wanted. Who would fall
for the girl like Shelly? The spell indeed was powerful. Now it was time to get
things moving. “Girls, I think this is enough of us pretending to ignore. I
think he is under control. Let’s get with the next step.”, she said while
others smiled at their triumph. However Shelly was disheartened.
