Love spell-part 6

He stood at the entrance of a book store. He had never stepped inside any book store in his life. He always felt that the books were for geeks and he was not a geek. He contemplated on whether to go in or come out.
After long hiatus, he walked inside. The place smelled of books both new and old. It turned his tummy upside down. He ignored his sickness while he searched her everywhere. She was there when he had walked in. Now she wasn’t there. A salesperson approached him and asked, “ Can I help you?” “ No thanks! Looking for someone.” , he replied and put his hand on his hair.

After walking like a lost puppy, he found her leaning on the shelf. She had her eyes closed. It seemed like as if she was hiding from someone. He nudged her and said, “ Hi! What happened?” She didn’t look surprised when she saw him. “ Huh! Are you following me or something? Why are you here?”, she asked furiously.
He stepped back with fear. “ I didn’t mean to scare you! I just wanted to have a cup of coffee with you.”, he said softly.

She stared hard at him. She could see the love in his eyes. But it wasn’t true one. It hurt her badly. “ Fine! One cup of coffee.. That’s all!” , she agreed. He jumped with excitement at her reply.

                                              **************

“ So how was the coffee date?”, Lizzie asked. “ It wasn’t a date. I had a cup of coffee only to please you. Hope you are pleased!” , Shelly said sarcastically. All the other members tried to stop her from being modest through their eyes. But Shelly ignored them and continued, “ He was so into me while I sipped coffee. I hardly spoke as you ordered me to do. He kept talking about his life and me. I simply ignored him. Now are you happy ?”  Lizzie folded her hands and replied, “ Oh! I think I am. But you should be happy. It was your idea, not mine. We are just the executioner of your idea.” Shelly looked at her with disgust.

Every day had become routine. She had to meet him as per Lizzie’s instruction. Her heart would break everyday to see that he loved her because of the spell. She still wondered why she was following her when she could boycott them outright. They were never her friends. They were pawns used by her loneliness.

Love spell -part 5

Shelly sat quietly engrossed into her physics notes at the library. There were other references books spread over her table. She was too busy in decoding the meaning from the text that she didn’t take notice of someone pulling a chair across her.  She was reading the same text for half an hour when the stranger sweared, “ Damn this problem!”  When everyone hushed him, he realised that he was too loud.

For the first time, Shelly raised her eyes to have clear look at the guy who had disturbed her precious concentration. It was Jon. “Jeez! Don’t let the spell come true!”, she wondered. She was about to leave when he said , “ I am sorry. I…”  He was lost in words. “ Never mind! I have to go.”, she said, leaving him confused. “ Wait!! Wait!”, he called as he followed her.

“ You can have a cup of coffee with me if you have some time.”, he said. She stopped suddenly and turned. She walked towards him and snatched his book. She scribbled something on it and left after handing the book. He opened the book to see what she had written. It was the solution to the problem. “ Oh! Beauty with brain!”, he thought.

She was neither very pretty nor ugly. She was an average girl. She dressed mostly in Gothic. She wasn’t Jon’s type. Still Jon had lost his heart to this mysterious girl. She had taken control of most of his imagination. The events replayed in his mind every time he was idle. His conversation with his friends would start with the mysterious girl and end with the topic on her. His friends were getting bored of it.

He searched for her everywhere but it was hard. She wasn’t normal kind of girl. She would come early to school and leave by afternoon when he would be practicing basket ball. She was not like the other girls who would strive to be visible to him. She was shady, trying to hide from him. He wondered why.

He should have asked her name instead he had asked her for a coffee. How lame could he be?  But she had left before he could ask her anything. It wasn’t his mistake.

Lizzie watched him staring at Shelly with everlasting desire to talk. At last the spell was working. Jon was becoming spellbound in love. This is what she wanted.  Who would fall for the girl like Shelly? The spell indeed was powerful. Now it was time to get things moving. “Girls, I think this is enough of us pretending to ignore. I think he is under control. Let’s get with the next step.”, she said while others smiled at their triumph. However Shelly was disheartened.

Love spell-part 4

Next day arrived with hopes and setbacks. Shelly waited eagerly next to the locker area for Lizzie. She knew that Lizzie never missed the first hour of the school. She was the smart one in the group.. the one who always grabs ‘A’ in all the subjects.

The first bell rang , indicating there was five minutes for the first hour to start. Students started dispersing to their class. There was chattering everywhere. The second bell rang signifying the class had started already and all the students were required to get inside.  The crowd started dwindling with few laughter here and there. Shelly didn’t give up. She had to see her friend.

One minute was left when Lizzie arrived. Shelly was done with lingering around her friend. “Lizzie, I need to speak to you about our trial.” , she said excitedly. “Hush! You know the rules! We don’t speak out our secrets loud.” , Lizzie snorted. Shelly flushed with embarrassment, “ I am sorry for forgetting the rules but this one is urgent.” Lizzie closed her eyes in anger and opened it with ball of fire in them. “ I said we don’t shout our secrets loud! Which part of it don’t you understand, weirdo? I don’t change things just like that. So when I say something, it’s final. You have no word in it! “, she snapped at her.

Shelly nodded out of fear as well as disillusionment of why she didn’t stand up for herself or why she didn’t walk out of this nonsense? Instead she saw herself saying ‘yes’ to her whimsical demand. How much she wanted to break off from her clutch. She couldn’t do it.

They walked inside the class. The school hours passed as usual. Boring lectures on how to make life simple was getting annoying. The school got over but torture hadn’t yet started. Shelly walked with her friends to their usual adda for starting their spell. She wanted to leave them by snooping towards home. But it wouldn’t work. Lizzie was too smart to spot her.

“ Guys, we would be starting our sacred ceremony today. The day is right and time is perfect. We have all the resources. Let’s do it!”, Lizzie said. Everyone were apprehensive at first but they were used to following their head. However Shelly protested mildly, “ But you said that this event was going to take place in full moon. It is not even past noon.” “ Rules change, Sweety! Who says we should have the ceremony today.”,

Lizzie argued.  No one dared to raise their hands and kept quiet. She ordered others to the task and Shelly meekly followed her rules.

They gathered branches and lit fire on it. They stood in a circle with Shelly standing inside the circle. They held hands and started their proposed activity.

“ My friends, we are here to start this sacred ceremony. Let’s close our eyes and chant the verses to call our godmother to step on our world and be with us. Oh godmother! We are here to offer you our own member. Accept it as our humble gift…”, Lizzie said as everyone followed what she said and chanted the spell , they had half knowledge.

Love spell-part 3

She waited for Lizzie at their meeting place. The place was a ground next to an abandoned cottage.  She had chosen it carefully. It was hideous and no one came to this place.

While she waited for her, she listened to Taylor Swift Invisible. The lyrics described her situation best. She replayed it again and again until she by hearted the words in her mind. Lizzie wasn’t there. It wasn’t her habit of coming late. “Where was she?”, she wondered.

An hour had passed. There was still no sign of her. She imagined two options on her mind- She could have forgotten or maybe she could have ignored her plea. She started to leave when she saw someone familiar approaching her. “ Who could it be?”, she thought.

It was him. He wore bright red shirt with blue jeans. His hair was brushed backward. The gel had given a glossy effect to his hair. His skin was clear and soft though his features were sharp. His blue grey eye changed their movement as per their expressions as he spoke ,“ Hi! Do you know where is this place?”
He was one arm distance towards her. He showed her the card which disclosed the address he wanted to go.  Her heart raced whenever he came closer to her.

“ I am going there. I could take you.”, she said softly. He joined her without speaking any word. Her body shivered whenever his hand brushed her fingers. She knew it wasn’t purpose. However she wished it was. They didn’t speak anything to each other except occasionally smiling at each other.

Her house had arrived. “ This is it! My house has arrived.”, she said.  She showed him that his destiny was two blocks ahead.  He left her , politely thanking her. She felt sad that he was not going to remember her next day.

When her mind was free from the fantasies of Jon, she called Lizzie many times. Her frustration had no bounds now. She left a voice mail for her,” Hi Lizzie! What’s going on? I asked you to meet me at the old ranch. Why didn’t you come?”

Lizzie was there when Shelly sent a voicemail. She simply deleted it. Her ideas and beliefs were everything to her. She would do anything to get her things done. No one would ever change her mind. She had to make Shelly be her subject in one of notorious experiment. Shelly was her chosen one and no one except her could replace her subjects.

Love spell-part 2

It was the usual summer afternoon. The sun was in it’s blazing best. But it didn’t affect Shelly and her friends. They were at the ground at the graveyard which was covered with green shades of California black oak trees. Shelly had her last sip of orange lemonade. She listened inattentively to what her head of her group said. Nothing interested her. It was only Gothicism and the discussion was more about the spells they planned to use on their worst enemies.

When her mind was idle, she would fantasize about the imaginary times with Jon. She would smile or frown without reason. She was bounded by thoughts of him. There was not a single minute where she didn’t think of him. Spells and witchcraft was myth to her. It simply didn’t exist in the world. How can speaking out strange words drive so much energy?  It made her laugh whenever she thought of it. But she had to fit in someplace and her friends cum Gothic fan were misfits themselves who pursued this culture to get away from the feeling of misfit.

Unfortunately today turned out to be miserable for her when the head of the group, Lizzie , saw her not participating in the discussions. “ What do you think, Shelly? Which spell do you think we must experiment?”, Lizzie asked. Shelly was oblivious of what was happening. She woke up suddenly to the reality. Thus her head started to pound. She rubbed her head to reduce the pain. It didn’t reduce. However she had to give a response and blurted out without thinking, “ Love spell!!”  She repented on what she said. But the damage was already done.

Everyone voted majority on what she said. “ Wow!! That’s could be fun. We need subjects for this.”, everybody said.  After a lot of brainstorming, they closed on two subjects- Jon and Shelly. Shelly was pretty much against on thought of trying the spell. She protested initially and then later she agreed when she heard about the benefits.

Shelly couldn’t sleep the whole night. She was getting apprehensive about the choice she made. She felt weak kneed when she was close to him. Though he never looked at her, but his sudden gaze at her would send shivers down her spine. How was she going to be with him with side effects breaking her confidence? She had to speak to Lizze about replacing her with other girl as female subject.

Love spell-part 1

Rosewood was a small town across the city of Ontario. The town was bustling with people carrying out peaceful life. Schools, markets and small business thrived around the small town. Weather was extreme with severe hot summers and freezing winters. Irrespective of the weather, crime free neighbourhood attracted many immigrants from all over the world. Friendship and love were easily found in this place. It was a perfect place for Shelly until she lost her heart to the most popular boy of the town- Jon McGuire.

She wasn’t the member of cheerleading squad. She wasn’t even a geek. She fell in middle- lost among the crowd. She didn’t belong anywhere. She had few friends with whom she hung around. She was an invisible teenager. She tried to fit into crowd. But she failed miserably. She lost interest in all these until her heart followed Jon.  However every girl tried to steal his attention. He was tall and lean. His atheletic body with smoldering blue grey eyes attracted girls.

Unfortunately she was mediocre girl with big dreams. She didn’t have any qualities that would attract attention. She didn’t have ‘Barbie’ like features. She was tagged as gothic though she didn’t fully believe in that culture. Her friends had forced her into being member of witchcraft and Gothicism.

Following was better than alienating to her. She wondered what her friend found cool in it. She hated that she couldn’t wear anyother colour except black. However she had no choice than accept a faith blindly.
Anyway, it didn’t matter to anyone including Jon. Even if she wore nothing, people would ignore her.

Nevertheless she wished deep in her heart that he would look at her once at least and feel the love she had for him. But that was never going to happen when Jon had attention of Raven- the prettiest girl of the school.

Russian roulette-part 19

She read the headlines once more. She pinched herself to digest the truth. He was arrested for murdering her friend. “ Thanks Andrei. This means a lot for me.”, she said to her friend. When she discussed about Shady being Nina’s murderer, Andrei filed a case against Shady and arrested him.

“ Don’t thank me. It has been tough for you to stand against love of your life. You helped us to track down his activities without taking care of yourself. It’s a great loss that we couldn’t save Nina. But I guess Nina would be happy that you put her murderer behind bars.”, Andrei said.

She got back to the business with her nonstop performance. She became constant target of Shady’s allies. His enemies tried to lure her into supporting them. However she didn’t stand with anyone.

Few months passed by. It looked like the sun was emerging from the dark clouds. Her life continued to move in normal pace. But she was destined to sad and grief filled life. Happiness was her short lived friend. Sorrow was her best friend.

                                                          *******  The present day   **********

Seven years had passed. She had taken the club to new heights. She was dancer during the night and it’s owner by the morning. She had sent the young 14 year old girls bought by Shady home. She replaced them with her friends who had lost their jobs.

Shady was serving his term in jail for all the heinous crime. Fortunately his term was cut short with help of his friends from the corrupt politics. He emerged from his hibernation as a wounded tiger. He had heard the success stories of Inna taking over his club. He had to get it back. But first he had to kill Inna.

He walked into his club without being identified.  He took the front row to see his spurned lover dancing. She was looking angelic in the outfit she wore. Her moves were flawless and why wouldn’t it be? He had pushed her to greater heights and she had pushed him down.

He took out his favorite weapon- revolver at her. He shot her on her chest. When he triggered the second bullet, it fired the chamber and killed him instantly.  Inna tried to get up to look at Shady one last time. But the pain didn’t let her get up on her feet. She was bleeding profusely. There was commotion everywhere.
Patracia and the others called the ambulance. It was too late. She was already dead. Her soul had risen up to heaven.
