Solitary Love - Part 21

Love seemed such an irony to him. He was living life with a lie all this time. The truth was bitter painful. It ripped his heart and soul. He wondered, " Maybe it was one of Willington's trick to break him."  How can anyone lie about one's wife death? Willington maybe the most cold person in the planet earth but he loved his wife to highest degree of madness. Willington's eyes said it all- she was no more.

Her beautiful face, green emralad eyes and long blond hair replayed in his mind time to time. Her careless smile, sweet voice, polite manners and thick British tone reminded him about the memories he shared with her. No one in this ground could measure his love for her.

He hadn't heard the words the Jamedar had said. He had even missed out the death sentence ordered by jemadar. He was engrossed in deep thoughts about all those days when he worried about her existence. He had prayed for her well being without a slightest thought that she was already gone ... far, far away.

"Do you have any last wish?", asked jamedar. These words were the only words he had heard. Last wish ! He had no wishes or desires. The only hope, wish or desire or whatever it was had gone. It didn't take him minutes to speak his " Death!", he said in careless voice.

Everyone was shocked. They hadn't seen anyone who desired death so much. He had asked for death. Did he know what he was asking? Some pitied him for losing his mind. Some acknowledged his boldness to ask for death out rightly. Some like Willington mocked him and called him foolish. "Do you know what you are asking?", Willington asked. Srinivasan replied back through chanting the verses from his poem.

"Life is irony,
 a joke filled with misery
where I can neither cry
nor can I smile.

Death is sweet,
an end to hopelessness
an end to painless emotions
an end to a lie
I had in my heart
for so long and forever"

He smiled while they looked at him confused. What were they supposed to do? If they gave him life, it was of no use. If they gave him death, he would be happy. Before they could act, he forced the guard to pull out the trigger of the rifle at his heart. It missed and instead hit his chest. He was swinging between life and death while he smiled at the people who caused this.
